What is Zakat?

Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and is a form of obligatory charity. It is 2.5% of a Muslim's total savings and wealth above a minimum amount known as nisab.

Nisab Thresholds:

  • • Gold: 85 grams (approximately $5,525)
  • • Silver: 595 grams (approximately $506)
  • • Cash equivalent: $4,340

Who Receives Zakat?

Zakat should be given to the poor, needy, those in debt, travelers in need, and other categories mentioned in the Quran.
